I don’t normally get excited about exhibits at Seattle Art Museum. I mean, it’s a decent museum and all, but I tend to favor contemporary art to traditional or modern time periods. When it comes to the northwest you’ll usually find me at either the Henry or the Frye. But this definitely got my attention: a collection of Warhol’s photography and film portraits. Good work, SAM.

Love Fear Pleasure Lust Pain Glamour Death — Andy Warhol Media Works will be showing Chelsea Girls on Friday, May 21 2010 from 7:30–11pm. Because it’s a single viewing no tickets will be sold in advance, however there are presale tickets for the entire film series. Check the website for complete details.

The full exhibit is showing with Kurt, an collection of pieces featuring Seattle legend Kurt Cobain. As someone who is really sick of the whole Seattle-grunge-Kurt-and-Courtney kitsch crap I’m quick to kick into hater mode, but the poster art on SAM’s windows looked interesting so I’ll keep the Pavlovian response in check for the time being. I suppose Seattle Art Museum is considered a “local,” so it’s not as bad as out-of-town DJs playing Nirvana club remixes in their Seattle gigs. Ugh. No one thinks it’s cute. Trust me.
